The SVD, known more commonly as the Dragunov after it’s designer, was, in the real world, designed to serve a squad support role to provide precise long-range engagement capabilities to ordinary troops following the Warsaw Pact adoption of the 7.62×39mm intermediate cartridge and assault rifles as standard infantry weapon systems. At the time, NATO used battle rifles chambered in 7.62×51mm NATO as standard infantry weapon systems and had not yet adopted an intermediate cartridge and assault rifle of their own, allowing them to outrange their Warsaw Pact counterparts.
This fun replica is a great talking point for any den or beer room, as a wall hanger or display piece. It’s definitely more about the looks, than the performance. It still manages a reasonable 170 (ish) FPS, but that is a long way off the performance of most AEGs or Gas Powered Blasters.
To attach the buttstock, you first must remove the top receiver cover, see below.
